Investigative Project on Race and Equity names Wendy Wei training coordinator

The Investigative Project on Race and Equity today announced that Wendy Wei has joined the organization as training coordinator, where she will lead the development and expansion of its journalist training program.

A Chicago native, Wei is an independent journalist and serves as immigration editor at South Side Weekly. She brings a strong background in reporting and editing, with a focus on issues of immigration and community-centered journalism.

“I am excited to take on the training coordinator role because I want to connect journalists with new tools that would complement their foundational arsenal of interviewing, field reporting and fact-checking, especially in service of racial justice reporting,” Wei said.

“We are living in a transformative time — journalists now have at their disposal technology to index mountains of documents, automate FOIA requests, track satellite imagery and more,” she added.

In her new role, Wei will help equip reporters with practical skills and emerging tools to strengthen investigative reporting and advance equity-focused journalism.

The Investigative Project on Race and Equity welcomes Wei to the team and looks forward to the impact of her leadership as it continues to grow its training initiatives and newsroom capacity.
