OUR WORK

Reporting with impact, coaching and training investigative reporters

Impactful Journalism

Our primary objective is to produce impactful journalism through a two-pronged approach:

  1. Generate data-driven reporting and analysis that reveal racial and economic inequities on multiple issues; and

  2. Train and mentor young journalists, particularly people of color, who seek careers in investigative reporting.

APPRENTICESHIPS

The Investigative Project offers apprenticeships to diverse journalists to learn the fundamentals of investigative reporting in a supportive environment. Our program taps into a large network of veteran reporters, editors and educators to advance the professional development of journalists, focusing on people of color.

We report facts, not opinions. We use data and public records to identify failed oversight and document patterns of abuse and expose systemic injustice. Our work sheds light on systems that contribute to racial and economic disparities.

PARTNERSHIPS

Our model is rooted in partnerships. We work with newsrooms and reporters on the ground to bring investigative firepower to their publications. We also bring training resources to our partners to help build capacity in newsrooms covering underrepresented communities. Together, we expand the reach of our reporting and amplify its impact.
